Speedbuilt Fenderwell Intake question, 2000GT

I am interested in purchasing the Speedbuilt® Fenderwell Intake Kit for my 2000 GT, however I am wondering if anyone has purchased it already, and could tell me about their experience with it. This is the URL of the kit, incase you are interested.

I am concerned with the car not getting enough airflow because the filter is so low, and it must suck the air upwards, I am also concerned with getting the filter wet while it is raining out, because I have to drive this car, rain or shine.

If anyone would care to share their experience with this kit, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks again

You should get plenty of air, as the GP is a bottom breather. I use a MSP CAI so I cant say anything bout the fwi. I know plenty of people either buy one or make one from Home Depot parts.

I also run a cold air box, a Thrasher. I don't know of too many "older guys" that run anything else.

A common complaint about the FWI is the that its location makes it prone to get wet and dirty.

FWI is pointless unless you live in Cali in my opinion

if you want, browse on pfyc.com...they have the fwi and......a box!!! that keeps it from getting wet, it only hurts airflow at a MINIMAL rate also. so, best of both worlds!

i pieced together my own FWI and the airflow is just fine. its been about 6 months now (or more i cant remember) and i havent had any rain or snow issues and ive been in some pretty bad rainstorms. once you see where the filter actually is you'll see its pretty hard for rain to get up in there. they do warn however not to drive in standing water if you want to save $100 bucks you can build your own. good luck!

Today I had to go have a spare key made up for the car, and my cousin works for a Buick/Volvo/Saab dealership and I was talking to him about it, he said that if you do get the FW wet, you can get hydrolock, which is far from good, he suggested just getting a K&N and putting it in.

Now, I saw the K&N AirCharger Kit online for about $250. But, would it be possible to just disassemble the airbox to the point where it would serve only as a PCM stand, and then just attach the K&N filter to the stock airbox hose. Would that be possible? Because it would save me a decent amount of money. Or if anyone has any other suggestions.

I'm wondering, as I sometime do. I know pfyc doesn't sell used parts. But why it it everytime I see this set up, any picture. Why is the filter dirty?

you can "gut" your stock airbox and use a k&n type filter. Cheap and will work ok.

I think you'd have to stop the car in a puddle and drowned the filter to hydro lock the motor. I spray water into the supercharger, the nozzle mist the water but the worst thing ive had is some bogging
