this is about 3 years old, done in the summer of 2002. with hindsight, i'd have finished some of the drawings a bit more, as i am faster today, but this was what i did then. i was, hmm, 32 years old. i have favorite frames that i feel are strong today, and some are weak. overall, i like this sequence, as i use it sometimes as a sample page.

considering most storyboard art is absolute crap, and extremely brief, i think i did ok with this one, considering the time-frame of one day:

sheesh, those all look good! loose but, very detailed how big are were these drawn? how muc creative freedom do you have for these? when you do these how do you present them?

i have seen a few that were not really good but most if them are really amazing they have they quick-n-dirty look to them yet the are super readable full of information, i do not think ic ould do what you do.

each drawing frame is about 3" x 4" -- 1:1.33 academy ratio (for tv).

freedom depends upon director. some directors want total control of the drawings, others need my creative mind to help them. this job pictured here is the latter: i invented everything --100% freedom.

typically, the more freedom i have, the better the drawings are because i care more. and i put more of my soul into the drawings. when the director is a control freak, i often do my worst work.

present them: email. or courier the originals. more and more, i provide a cd-r of the scans, plus email. so i keep more of my drawings this way. i hate to give away drawings i really care about.

storyboarding is like going to the army: you are at war with the world, and must survive like an animal. you must be able to draw anything, at any moment, even if you hate the subject, or feel sick.

you must draw sometimes all night without sleep, and the world does not care about how you feel about the subject. you must make it look acceptible even if you have worked for 21 hours without sleep.

this is why it is a good idea to be fast, so you can go to bed and get paid.

by the way, thank you tokes, venom, and nicecar, for the props.

That stuff is so cool!

I like the arrows... the frame with the arrow showing the pin of the rev counter is moving... lol that's somehow fun.

Did you have a reference for the bike? It looks great.

I agree really nice work!
That is very hard to do so well.
I like the perspective on the 2 bikes from the rear on pg#7.

knight, on page 4 there is a side and front view. those are the only references i had. everything else is guesswork as to how the bikes may look from different angles.

whether it really looks a certain way or not from different angles: this kind of drawing is more about being "convincing" rather than completely accurate. so i often guesstimate everything based on what the reference tells me. the shot and the movement are really what i am selling.

grant and knight, by the way, thanks for props.
i will post some more stuff soon from the archives.
