Weird sound coming from Engine?

Hey fellow Accord Owners. Tell me if you guys have an idea of what this might be. I have a 94 Accord EX F22B1 Automatic with 172,500 miles. I noticed for example if I am accelerating at lower rpms that I hear a weird clunking sound. It sounds like its coming from the engine and I can feel it slightly in the gas pedal also. I notice it a lot when I am not going that fast like for example in a parking lot or turning corners. I know that automatic transmissions have a feature where they hold on upshifting if you are driving at low rpms like if you keep slowing down to turn corners for example. I know it does this so the transmission doesn't shift when you are getting ready to slow down. I am wondering if it has anything to do with that? I noticed it does it at times like that. I also noticed it if I am driving at higher speeds and I let off the gas and the rpms go down then when I press the gas I hear the clunking sound then its gone once I get up to higher rpms. The sound is not there at normal acceleration. My engine is nice and queit at idle and also when I am driving on the freeway :) So I am curious what this might be? Back in January I had the timing belt job done and I am not sure if I remember hearing it before I got the job done. I was wondering if it might have anything to do with the balance shaft system? I know its not the CV Joints. The sound I hear is more of a "clunking sound" It's kinda weird. I know its not rod knock either. I've heard that before and rod knock is always there. The sound I hear is not always there. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

have you checked engine/trans mounts? if those are ok...try checking the steering/suspension bushings/joints. unless the sound is distinctively coming from engine/trans, i would check the parts listed above.

Thanks for the reply. I already had my front, rear, and transmission mounts changed. Yeah it sounds like its coming from the engine then I was thinkin what if its the transmission, but it sounds like its coming from the engine. Kinda hard to tell where weird sounds are coming from sometimes.

I'm gonna have to agree with the engine mount too, especially if it had to be removed to do the timing belt job, it may have not been put back together correctly.
There was a post here a while back about broken or missing engine cradle (subframe) to body bolts, that'll cause some strange knocks and clunks when transitioning from power to coast, etc.

Best first thing to do is open the hood, set the parking brake, and torque it up in gear, giving it quick pops of throttle both in forward and reverse, and see if you can duplicate the noise or see any unrestricted engine movement. They should be able to rock somewhat front to back, but a broken or loose mount will show as a sudden "flip" motion accompanied by a thud or knock.

Take a look at your exhaust as well, contact with the motor or body will produce some really alarming sounds in certain conditions of load on the drivetrain. Make sure you don't have any broken or missing brackets or hangers on the motor end.

Your balance shafts would give you a phasing vibration that got worse in a certain RPM range if clocked wrong. I think you can forget that.
