auto wont shift corr

Tranny will not shift out of 1st on high rpm, it will just cut down from 6g ready to shift to about 800 and almost die off, the reason I been messing with the car is becaue I hit the fuel cut off valve for the pump in the trunk and it cut the fuel from flowing but now I can not seem to get it right, I already changed comp, gaskets, and checked vacuum lines, still not running correctly and also after about two mins of running it dies off and I messed with the distributor because I had just changed the plugs and maybe it was firing incorrectly but that wasnt it. But also my wires are in bad shape, this might be the problem of it cutting off but why the hell wont it shift, I've been working on this car for about 3 weeks now all day long and nothing is comming right please help. any information would be greatly appreciated by the way its a 4cyl se 95 and the diagnostic is not working, I hooked up the grd and sti or sto whateva the hell it is, and I get no code

you cant use the sti/sto on the 95-97 probes,they are OBD-II you will have to use a OBD-II tester.93-94 were OBD-I
