My parts list and FSM only show a 10" X 1.75" brake shoe size for either the dana 35 or 44 axle on the XJ and show the same part number for both axles too.
Only the Grand Waggoneer has 11 inch brakes on the back.
Where did you get the info from that says 2 sizes on the XJ??:dunno::)

I ran into the same thing at my local auto parts store. It must be the way the aftermarket parts books lists the brake shoes. They must lump the Wagoneer and Cherokee together, with the Wagoneer being refered to as the longer or extended wheelbase.

Folks, earlier XJ's had larger brakes. My 84 XJ with the Chevy 2.8 has somewhat larger brakes than the 4 liter XJ found in later years.
Sometimes parts books do not properly reference the brake size to the vehicle model year properly.
Why they went to a bigger engine but made the brakes smaller is beyond me.

What I would do is to....
Jack up Jeep...
Pulll rear wheel...
Pull brake drum...
and measure diameter with a tape measure....
It is either 9 inch or 10 inch (if I am not mistaken)...
Usually the larger drum is used with the larger wheel options...
My 97 XJ Sport uses the 9 inch with the 15 inch Ecco alloy wheels.
