Hi,
The lenses on my Dad's '96 C1500(it's a GMC) are very cloudy and need to be replaced. Anyone know how to go about that? I'm told you only need to replace the 'capsule' and now the brackets. If anyone knows of an article on the subject, a link would be appreciated. I posted to the GMC forum but thought I'd give this one a try as well since it seems to get more traffic.
Thanks,
BGC

Stuff with lenses is pretty easy. You might only have to take them out to clean them. Mine were pretty foggy too untill I took them out and wiped them down on the inside. If it's the lenses themselves, local auto stores should have replacements.

This is the cheapest place on the net to find them. I bought a set there when I converted my 88 to a newer style grill. They are excellent aftermarket replicas.

If the lenses are cloudy on the outside you can fix them by using a fine finishing compound or final glaze polish. Buff them out and they will look good as new.

Oh--by hand with elbow grease--no power tools.

I just replaced my sons on his 94 sierra yesterday. They were plastic and could not be cleaned. I ordered them from US Auto Parts-1-888-872-8866. I just replaced one side and they were only 58.00 bucks shipped. That is for 1-signal lamp and 1-head lamp. Mine are the composite type. It was an easy job too.

Actually it is a common misconception that the composite plastic lenses can not be cleaned--A little final glaze and a soft cloth will bring them back to clear as new- but it takes a little work.

How do you go about removing the old headlight housing? I guess this one is composite, it's the plastic lens and the bulbs plug into the back.
