You can chip mod it, bore it out, exhaust manifold, air intake, throttle body spacer, super charger, nitrus lmfao

The 2.5 is pretty weak, but is bulletproof and will last and last. Probably the best option for increasing the get up and go is to install a better gear ratio in your differentials. Right now you probably have 4.11 gears. I've heard of people running 4.88 or even 5.83 (don't quote me on the exact ratios). These will give your 4 a bit more authority over your wheels; better acceleration but higher engine speed on the highway. You'll have to adjust the speedometer also to read correctly.

Most folks swap their gearsets since they put larger tires on and their performance went down the tubes; if the set you put in is TOO high, you can always add some larger tires to adjust.

You would be suprised how many Suzuki 1.6's I have seen wheeling. The trick isn't always in the axle ratios, although 4.11 is a minumum for a 4 banger atop 32 or 33's. IF it's off-road performance you want, think about a Tera-Low or Atlas II. You want a CRAWL gear 4 to 1 or get crazy with a 5 to 1. That way you get great off-road performance, and maintain some highway drivability. No matter what, That 3.07 rear end is made for highway only. That is why you have no acceleration.

Good point; ratios are ratios though, wherever you install them - axles, transfer case, or transmission.

I agree with ya, but ya gotta remember front axle ratios have to be the same as rear, there is no compromise on this. (unless your running differant tire sizes front and back, which I don't think anyone has ever tried)

I've also gotta 4-banger with 4.56 gears. Works pretty well. I've heard rumors that a throttle body from a 4.0 will fit the 2.5 intake and that it has a bigger bore meaning more POWER!!! Is there any truth to this? Oh also if you swap out the belt drive fan for an electric you can gain horse's there too. Haven't done it myself but I am lookin' into it.

You have to be carefull with those plastic fans, we experianced this with our Humvees in Iraq. Fording deep water will break them(only if they are spinning), and so will road debris.

Ford Taurus fans work well, cuz they are 2 speeds. Just install or fab up a switch to turn it off on deep water runs.

Plastic fans aren't bad, but they are considerably weaker. I would suggest them for someone who doesn't wheel that much. BUT, if your into wheeling, screw the 3 hp or whatever it is, and go with what is known to be more reliable.
