Whats up guys,
I'm a FORD man by nature and name......,
but my 91 F-150 with a 5.0 and and a 5speed is now start the 9mpg phase of it's life, my whole clutch assembly is shot, it overheats and i can't afford to recover it to full reliability, i'm in college. I've only ever driven and worked on Domestic RWD, but now i may sacrifice....
My dad told me his friend is selling a 98 four door VW golf for pretty cheap. ONly problem is the AC compressor is shot, he says it cost 1100 dollars for a new one, it gas not desiel. It's got 112,000 miles on it and it's a five speed. Honestly, what are some of the problems this car might encounter. Is the AC servicable by me if i gotta compressor cheap. I could really use some solid feedback, I know it might hurt to be a little honest but everycar has problems. Are parts expensive, what MPG can i expect, what size engine come in the base model. I am mechanically compatent to an extent, could i possibly fix the AC. All i know is R112 old school AC. With a 112,00 on it, is the clutch on it's last leg? Is the Turbo swap very possible, is it easy, can i make it somewhat fast w/reliability?

Damn!!!!, for 1100 dlls i'd be all over it!!!!
Engine can be 1.8 or even a 1.8t, 2.0, VR6 all kinds of stuff. Mileage is amazing, my engine is a 8v 1.8 liters 18 years old, and is giving me about 28 to 30 mpg. Parts are somewhat expensive but the strength of this engines is amazing, besides the posibilities of performance are endless. I'd check for major things like leakages, and some minor things, clutch probably might give you some other 50k miles, and it's no too expensive if find the right providers. Mostly the internet. If you don't buy it, give me a holler and i'll go buy it.!!!!
