would it be tough to squeeze out 170 hp out a d16z6 without forced induction?

maybe with port and polished head and a light weight flywheel as well as cold air and lighter aluminum parts like crank pulleys and ect. you need exhaust to so i suppose it would be possible with the vtec and all the performance things.

170 is going to be tough to get to the flywheel, let alone to the ground without forced induction or nitrous.

it is possible with the right amount of money... this would be very expensive, and you would need to get everything flowing together....flow numbers to the head, bigger valves, a very aggresive cam grind, stand alone ecu, high compression pistons, rods strong as hell, lightened and balanced crank, a bigger bore to maybe a 1.7 or 1.8. bigger throttle body depending on the flow numbers from the head... but most importantly EVERYTHING must work together. The parts have to be made to fit together and not negate eachother. highest octane fuel you can find, from a gas station....you don't want to tune a car for cam2 and only have access to it at the track. and a cold air is not the way to go...a short ram...engines do not like to work for the air, and at higher rpms cold air limit the amount of power.

There was a new guy on the forum a couple weeks ago. he hasnt posted in a while, but anyways, he supposedly has a d16y7 (thats the non-vtec) thats pushing 170 to the flywheel. his set-up consists of itb's and a gude race head with the bullfrog cam.

i am currently trying to make 300 hp for under 600 dollars i have most of the stuff and the engine is in the shop getting bored .010. I have spent 425 dollars so far including the machine shop.
I am running high compression and a little bit of boost. The boost will come from a turbo that i picked up for 25 dollars. i will run it on a dyno after i build it to see how much power it creates.

well i hope u aint expecting those numbers with a SOHC without spendings a few G's what motor you got?

high compression with boost is a no no. i would not expect that much power. without a lot of boost. make sure ther is no shaft play on the turbo and for a safe measure rebuild the turbo.

i personaly think that 300 is not gonna happen. i spent thousnads on my set up and make 1/2 that.

Thats just an excuse for people who are too lazy to tune well. High compression works good with boost if you tune it right.

Yeah, high compression with a smaller turbo is the way to go.

Sorry I disagree... cold air is always better than hot air, no matter where it's coming from. And it's not going 20 feet to get to the tb so I doubt it's really working that hard...
