He's here to learn he said. Tell them how they differ maybe, why they differ, why they were changed...

well, they were mainly just evolutions of the previous version to make more power more efficiently as engine management systems improved and problems from the previous version were corrected. The only exception are the DOHC Cobra motors which made more power but were much more expensive to build.

Go to a bookstore and get the book "4.6 Liter Ford Engines" by Sean Hyland. More info than you ever wanted to know about the Ford Mod motors. Sean Hyland was one of the pioneers of racing/modding the 4.6. If you can break it, fix it, modify it, or push it to the limits, he has done it, or one of the customers of Sean Hyland Motorsport has. SHM has been around since the mid-late '90's when Sean had "Kermit", a green Cobra, and MM&FF Mag had "Superfly, DOHC" (Destroyer Of Hideous Camaros) and they were duking it out breaking 4.6 liter HP and ET records, and setting the baseline for modern-day motors.

SA Designs also has an excellent book on the 4.6s. It's under their "Car Tech" line.
