Will these wheels fit? ASA ST4 19x18.5....

1995 VR4 Spyder

Hi,

Couldn't find a thread with the search that would let me know the answer....

I have a 1995 VR4 Spyder, and seems like lots of sites don't want to show me good wheels for it. Only for coupes....

I want to get from TireRack.com (if you know somewhere cheaper, tell me!)

- Maker: ASA
- Type: ST4
- Size: 19 x 8.5
- Finish: Chrome
- Tires: 245/35-19
- Pattern: 5x114
- Offset: +42mm
- Weight: 29.5lbs ea

(sorry I couldn't post a link, TireRack wouldn't save my search)

I've heard TireRack has claimed some wheels don't fit, but that some people actually have on their cars. So, I don't want to ask TireRack, I want to ask the fellow 3SI's.

Will those wheels fit? I know in general, a '95 VR4 is a 5x114 bolt pattern, stockers at 7.5" wide, and need to be offset 35mm+ ... those wheels seem to meet those requirements, but I want to know if they're too wide, or too tall.

Also, I have a spyder, which I am 99.7% sure has the same setup as a coupe, yet a majority of sites list different wheels. Then again, lots of sites have automatic VR4s ... so I don't really trust they're all right.

Also, I'd like a recommended tire size. Should I stick with the 245/35-19s it recommends or will I get fender/wheelwell rub? Should I go with a different size?

Please help an aspiring tuner! This will be my first "mod", followed by intake and exhaust ... but we've done those on my roommate's integra so I have an idea how they go. If funding comes through and I can learn some of this stuff, maybe you'll see me at Hot Import Nights around the east coast....

Thanks everyone!

I don't believe they made automatic VR-4's.

But anyway, I b-e-l-i-e-v-e... those rims would fit. Spyder's and Coupes have the same specifications as far as I can tell.

if the site says it will fit on a coupe vr4 then it will fit the spyder. the reg coupes have smaller brakes and therefor fit a larter selection of wheels. Stock offset is +46, so you are very close to stock on that. Stock width is 8.5" so that is dead on. The 19/35 is the closest tire size to stock circumferance there is and its only slightly larger than stock.

yeah they will fit i got on my turbo stealth some BSA wheels on the front 18x8.5 and on the rear 18x10 and they fit perfectly :naughty:

Wischmaster:

No, they never did make automatic VR4s (from the factory, not counting the aftermarket conversions). But, try checking ebay. They have them listed as autos on there all the time.

talskinyguy:

That's what I thought, VR4's had beefier brakes and needed more caliper clearance. I thought stock was 7.5" though? I wasn't sure if sites listed less wheels because they think the convertible guys want a smoother ride and don't want the harsh bumps that the coupe performance guys go for. :)

6g72tt: Holy cow! x10s! That's huge! Aren't you supposed to match size on AWD's though?

yeah my bro tells me that, i should match the size but the wheels feel great and i feel the car a little more stable than all 4 wheels the same size also it helps me out to make doughnuts easier :naughty:, but thats the least just love the stability and the offset on the rear wheels :smokin:

if you would like i can help you out on buying the wheels i trade my old wheels for these new ones, i had 4 speedy 17x8 (with tires) and trade them for the 18x8 and 18x10 with used tires (75% thread on them) for 250 bucks and my set of wheels and tires if you like to see the wheels see the pictures section of "photos of your rides"

Hi 6g72tt,

Thanks for the offer, but I'm set on the style and size of the wheels that I want. I want to go 19s and chrome (for show) but without going crazy on price. These wheels are a great compromise. Less than $2k for them with Z-tires mounted + balanced + shipped....

OK ... new question, with no search results....

There's also the TSW Bremma, which are split-5's of the design I like. Comparable price and weight to the ASA ST4s.

I have a general knowledge, enough to be dangerous, but not enough to be intelligent. I'm considering doing 19x8.5 fronts, and 19x9.5 rears (offset fixation from the TransAm I guess) ... is this going to burn up the LSD or some other AWD/drivetrain component at a faster than normal ratio? I know I've seen something somewhere that says differences in weight or width would cause issues with the VR4s.... If so, any fitment issues with doing 19x9.5 all the way around?

The 9.5's have a code of "35SM", and the 8.5's have a code of "25SML", which I think is offset? And maybe means they won't fit? Basically, the site says the 18x8's will fit, but won't even let me search on 19s.

Car gets out of the shop in less than 2 weeks, so I need to get some wheels soon. And they'll need to clear the 14" big brake set. :evillol:

Thanks as always!

OK, so I found where I saw the info on matching tire sizes completely on AWDs:

http://www.daveblack.net/asp/TirePlusSizing.asp

Now, the question of the day, will the 19x9.5s fit, and does the 35SM mean 35mm offset, and is that correct?

Thanks!

I honestly know very little about this subject, but to get more replies, and also to have another place to search, I'd suggest checking out this:

So, I tried to get these from Victoria Tire:

http://www.victoriatire.com/package_search_brand.html?cart=111963412721414408&startAt=1&new_brand=ASA&brand=PACKAGES%2019in%20Cars&made=19in%20Wheels%20&%20Tires%20Package%20Specials&;

ASA JH1, 19x8.5 with the 245/35ZR19 ... they don't have the VR4 on their site for fitment, which sucks.

I called them up, and they said they won't clear the calipers due to offset. :uhoh:

Can anyone recommend some good 6-spoke (solid or split) wheel/tire combos that I can fit on my 95 Spyder VR4? I like the 5Zigen 5ZR style wheels http://216.120.250.216/pictures/wheelpics/VT1611A.jpg, and I want to go 19x8.5 / 19x9.0 / 19x9.5 (if stock fitment will work), and chrome, for around $2k shipped. :evillol:

I can't find any sites that have specific styles (5 spoke, 6 spoke, etc) listings that fit our cars, and I'm a web developer by trade, so I'm toying with the thought of setting up some 3S resources such as those. I'll make a new post if I get around to making the site....

Also, Igovert, I'm convinced that 3Si sucks really badly. :) Now, before I get flamed ... I've never had an account with them. I tried to sign up for one. My email address is banned? Huh? So I email the webmaster from the link on the site. Any response? Nope. For like a week. I don't understand that. :screwy: But oh well. Everybody here seems to be helpful!

3si doesn't suck, they just aren't always as tolerant to noobs. The reason your email account was banned was probably because you tried using a free web-based email, which they do not permit due to the potential spam problems.
If you try logging on with another email something like AOL or such...it will work fine. Regardless, the link I posted above has vast threads about this exact topic, and you don't need to be a member to skim through them and read them. The only advantage to being a member is the abilities to post and search.

OK, I figured out the problem with 3Si. I've not received a reply from the webmaster in over 3 weeks (disheartening), but I have an account with them under my old AOL address. I never thought of that until Igovert mentioned it. I haven't used that address in quite some time, but it's still active (parents account). I was able to log in with it, but still can't update my address to gmail. But, at least I can search there. That's a big plus. So I'm happy with 3Si again....

I hope you guys don't mind me posting to this old post but I to have had problems with Victoria Tire. This post shows up really well in a google search. So I figured I add my experience as it might save someone the trouble we went through with these clowns.

I purchased a set of RPM chrome wells for my eclipse spyder from these guys because the price ($800.00) seemed pretty good. Well 1 month later when the wells starting rusting I gave ya boy Quincy an email and another and another without a reply. So I tracked down there phone # and after several attempts, finally got him on the phone. I explained to him my problem and the fact that the car is garage kept and rarely driven. He was like, "send them in and we'll take a look at them and if they are in fact rusting, we will replace them." I said cool and sent them back with the tires on them rather then going through the expense of removing the 18's as per his instructions. So about a dozen calls later I got him on the phone. He said man that wasn't rust but rather spots from brake dust. I said ok? He said he would send me pictures and after another 10 or so emails. "Where's my pictures?" He finally emailed them to me. Well, the rims looked great in the pictures, so I said send them back then. Oh i forgot to mention he now had my rims tires and cash going on 3 months and was afraid I'd never see them again judging by the essay's that answer the phone over there. The tires were bought locally so I was starting to freak to say the least, but I kept a cool head as to not screw myself by angering him. So finally I get an email from him saying, " your rims are on the way." I was like Cool!!! Finally!!!

Well, sure enough a few days later the Brown truck blew the horn out front. I go outside and to my surprise the driver was wanting $230.00 for the C.O.D packages. I was like, "WHAT!!!!" :cursin: So needless to say I didn't have the cash on me, so I had to run to the ATM and then track down the driver on his lunch break. So, I get the rims home and unpack them and about blew a gasket when I noticed that there magical cure to the rust problem was to rub turtle wax on them and buff it out. I mean there was still traces of it on the back side of the rims. I was like OMFG!!!! :cursin: These freakin con artists!!!

Well, it's not I was going to send them back because as it stood these rims were up to over a $1000 when you figure in the shipping both ways.

So I'm pretty much stuck with them........

So you guys may want to think twice before giving Victoria Tire any of your hard earned cash....

Oh, I emailed RPM about the problem and had to get rude before they would even reply. Based in china, I think. They were just as bad as Victoria Tire..

Thanks for letting me post my experiences with these Flakes....

When are they going to learn that car guys stick together no matter what were rollin in.

Now this post can go back to the bottom and google will do the rest!:D
