It` possible yor pump is shot they`re know for going bad, not cheap either. I`ll look into checking it out. we replace them alot in our shop, is it running rough or smoking?

Hello, A97, and thanks for the speedy response. No, it runs smooth, and doesn't smoke, it just doesn't want to respond to the throttle for a few minutes. Then, it will run fine. I also have a shift problem, which all of these trucks seem to get. When it is cold, it wants to stay in low until it revs out. After it is warmed up, it takes off in second(I think). If you manually shift to low, it still doesn't go into low. Then, too, sometimes it will get a wild hair, and shift fine. The dealer service rep is less than helpful, says he thinks it is the torque converter. I don't.

P0216 is the death rattle for the VP44 injection pump. It is on its way out, and there is no correcting it. If you have not yet seen this, you will start to get excessive smoke, usually white or light blue, then you get the "dead pedal" effect and hesitant acceleration.

On the shifting problem, the 47re trans is a dog. You could have problems with the torque, or it could well be the valve body. THey are nto the greatest unit in the world for longevity, as far as auto trannies are concerned.

Your VP pump is covered by the 100,000 mile engine warranty, if you are under 100k. otherwise, I have seen prices range from 975 - 1500 bucks for a rebuilt pump.

Good luck with it. ANy other ????s PM me

Thanks for quick response. I am looking into how difficult it is to do at home...like does it require special equipment to check components or timing. My library should have some of this information
