Its not to hard to install. Just look at the placement of your old one before you take it out and pput the b&m in the same way. Your gonna love the b&m it makes driving a lot more enjoyable. Good Luck

I got the shifter yesterday, put it in last night! Went pretty smoothly except for the part where I had to destroy the old shifter just to get the retaining clip/ring off to use with the new one.
The new shifter is certainly shorter...in fact now it seems that I have too much boot material. I think I'll look into some other aftermarket boots.
The new shifter feels good (from the short test drive I took) and looks pretty cool. All in all...I'm pretty happy with my first mod on my Cavi... more to come... :bigthumb:

Glad it worked out for you. I know that when i put mine in i was pleased with the results. I had to break mine all the same. Make sure when you order a new shift boot get one that is specialy made for the cavalier and for a short shifter or it will not fit around the plastic base. I had to learn that the hard way. I bought two uneversial shift boots and they wouldnt fit. Good luck with future mods.

Im not sure what company i got mine from, Right now im sittin in iraq and the internet is so slow that i couldnt get anywhere when i tried to look. If you search on google or yahoo or where ever you like to search you can find one, but like i said make sure its for the cavalier and for a short shifter. You should be able to find one pretty quick. Sorry i couldnt help you more with a site. Good Luck!

How hard is it to install a short shifter? Do you have to go underneath the car and remove the exhaust to get to it? Or is it just an install from inside the car? Could a person with a basic knowledge of cars do it?

yes its easy to do but you will need help if its a 2000 - 2004 because there are 2 clips that hold down the shift cable thingys and if u break one of those clips you will have to pay 150.00 to replace it...(your talking to the person who had to go through this just last week) and if you do fuck this job up you are lookin at at least a week that ur cars out of commission...lol not to steer you away but goooooooood luck

you can do it in the car and you dont have to go under the car to do it or remove the exhaust...your gonna need a wratchet set (or however your spell it) and a couple of screwdrivers (flat and philips) good luck and be careful with the two clips cuz if u break them your gonna pay 150.00 for them to be replaced....i should know because i just did

How do u remove those clips without breaking them? do u need to take the center console out?
CavLCD128

ooo yea...remove the center consol...youl need a ratchet set and a long extension piece...then when u look down you will see a white clip and a gray clip (Plastic) (white on the left if ur sitting in the back seat and gray on the right)
these to pieces will drive you incredibly insane to get off...what you have to do is unclip it in the front to relieve the tension...then use a flathead screwdriver and unsnap the 2 pieces in the back...when you get the clips off then you have to pull till u cant pull no more...and remove the little sticks from the clips and then you can unbolt the whole shift thing and take it off....if i had the chance to redo mine and i didnt have anyone's help...i would have defintally taken it to a machanic

remeber to adjust your shifter settings once you install it or youll run into major shifting problems

What do you mean adjust shifter settings? i installed mine a few weeks ago and i have been driving fine (except for my existing problem) and it shifts fine

i have a 2000 but if you can give me a description of where this this is because im finding it hard 2 get into 1st gear 2...i figured it was was just becasue i replaced the shift cables...but if i can shave off a piece of plastic under the shift rods or whatever that would help...let me know

if you pull up the shifter boot and flip it upside down, look on the inside were there should be a plastic trim that holds the boot on. I shave a bit off on the inside plastic and havent had any problems since.
