when you get a fix-it ticket?

I got a fix-it ticket for my civic because of excessive smoke - the idiot that owned it before me was trying to supe it up (but it's only a d15b8 sohc non vtec) and I'm guessing either my piston rings are shot, i need a valve job, or my pcv valve is clogged - but at any rate, if and when I go to get my fix-it ticket written off (I live in cali too, this is relevant) will they look under my hood, or could I just bring them in a fake reciept from a shop, saying I got a valve job or something, start my car for them and show them that it doesn't smoke any more or what?
