And yet another question about the cooling system

Here's a quick question. If the temp gauge stays pegged at "C", could that keep the engine fan from turning on?? I've changed out the temp sensor, temp sending unit, and a relay or two. I think I'm going to break down and have a mechanic look at it. The car's a 95 buick century 3.1. Thanks

The guage should not have anything to do with the fans coming on. It takes its reading from the temp sensor and comes on when the temp reaches a certain temperature. I would check to see if the fans motors are still good. It appears that you have changed out everything else so test the fans themselves as the fan motors may have gone bad.

Ditto. Your cooling temp gauge is on a seperate connection than the sensor, therefore should be unrelated. Other than the fan itself being bad, you can try to jump the relay and see if it kicks on. Worst case scenario, you bypass the cooling sensor and install a fan switch in the drivers area for manual use.

I ran into a buddy and told him about my probs w ith the temp gauge. He had changed out the temp sending unit on his car a couple weeks ago and had problems like mine (gauge not working and temp light). Turned out pep boys sold me the wrong sending unit. I ordered the correct one from the dealership so hopefully things will work as advertised when U get the new sensor!
