Ok so its tuesday night, fire practice. We are having a water shuttle drill to see how much water we can flow from an engine and not run out. We are using five water tenders to do the water shuttle. Anyway, The bridge going across the river is being worked on so there is only one lane going across. All the fire apperatus makes it across ok and we start are drill. Drill went ok and when we are almost done there is a tsunami warning for the Oregon coast. So we are trying to get back across the river and I am driving Tender #1 with 3000 gal of water and some dumb old guy stops to chew the fat with the flagger. WTF is this guy thinking. you have a huge slime green truck with lights all over it and you stop right in front of it. Ok I am done bitching

This is sorta like what I was driving

Not too bright, to stop on a one lane bridge in front of fire equipment. I'd have hit the siren or at least the lights.

I was thinking about the Tsunami warning for....Oregon? Where was the seismic event that caused the wave, and did it ever arrive?

GOLD! You're a fire fighter?! :) Mind if I plow a few questions your way?
I was taking a few of the 100 hr classes to be volunteer, but then I was thinking about just making it a career. PMing away...

I'd have hit the sirens, even if you have certain procedures, but after all it is an emergency vehicle that could be called to respond anywhere at anytime. Tell the old dude, to get the f out of the way.

Trust me I thought about it. I did throw my arms in the air and shruged my shoulders to the flagger. Our department is always worried about PR so I behaved myslef in repect to using the noise makers...lol

That's kinda surprising. Though people generally very much dislike cops, they usually respect firemen.

People respect firemen because they're the guys getting us outta the fire, police are usually power mongers, flashing the badge except for the few. I dont even trust a cop to come and save me if a robber was in my house, i'd rather shoot the guy then call the cops.

The flagger was probably holding him there.

Flaggers should know better if that wasn't the case.

The flagger was not holding him there. The guy was 4th or 5th in line and stopped at the flagger and started talking to him. The flagger was shaking his head at the old guy.

Do you really want to shoot them at birth? Isn't that a bit messy? Just set them in a trash bag or something. Maybe a nice, clean injection.
