PT Turbo vs WRX

My friend has a stock 2005 WRX automatic and I have a manual Pt Cruiser Turbo. The WRX puches out about 227 hp and 217 lbs of torque through four wheels. My PT pushes 220 hp and 245 lbs of torque throught the front wheels. The cars weight roughly the same. Who would win in the 1/4 mile. I accept defeat in the areas of coolness and all that, although he is probably the biggest poser ever driving an auto WRX.

As much as I hate to say it, you'd probably beat him

yeah, it really depends on how far ahead he gets on launch because you should start catching back up slowly. but he will have you launch due to the AWD.

It will be pretty close, I don't expect anyone to gain any major bragging rights here.

really... i would have thought the wrx would win.
ive seen my buddy's 02 wrx with just CAI and cat-back exhaust kill evos, s2000s, rx7s ect.

Thats pretty good for a regular WRX, you sure he dosn't have more than that done? The S2000 I can believe, they really aren't as fast as people would have you believe.

yeah i helped him work on the car. generic cold air intake and hks hipower exhaust. thats it.
the evo also had cold air, turbo-back exhaust, and boost controller running 1.3 Bar (19psi i think)
i watched it with my own eyes i couldnt believe it either but he beat the evo by 2 carlengths

S2000s are really pretty slow in a straight-line. Unless you're willing to launch from 6000 rpm and incinerate your clutch over and over again, the best it can do is about 14.5 in the quarter mile. And I can believe a WRX with those mods beating an Evo with those mods, if the WRX driver was a better driver.

So true! yeah you get 240hp, but you have the smallest powerband alive and no torque...then again Id kill for one

Damn I bet that evo guy was surprised, bet he thought it would have taken the STI to get him. Mason, I agree with the S2000 being a nice car though, and also that its not exactly a rocket.

I've never really liked the S2000. It's not that it's a bad car, I just don't like having that great a lack of torque. And also, as good as the performance is, there is definitely better for $30K-35K. The car is all about the driving experience - you either enjoy it or you don't.

i enjoyed it...but it would never be something id buy. the one i drove felt like i never hit a power band. it was moving but it felt like there should have been alot more...plus i dont like the whole girly 2 seater convertible look. thats the type of car that makes a grown man question is his sexuality. but yeah, i love to see one...especially one with a hot woman driving it but its not for me.

I agree, I like it I will admit, but for the price I would be looking at a 04 Mach1, or Cobra (personally). If they were out of the question I think the next thing I would definately rather have for the price would be the 350Z.

i dont like the 350Z either...im rather dissappointed in the 350Z. it should be so much more but its not. a 3.5L from nissan should be destroying a honda 4 cylinder or mazda N/A rotary. instead it only beats them by a small margin in acceleration peformance and the handling feel isnt even on par. im actually quite dissappointed in the RX8 too. the s2000 impresses me more than the other 2 but i would never waste my money on any of them. after creating such extroadinary cars in the mid 90's...it is embarassing to create something 15 years later that doesnt totally demolish what the previous generation offered. i understand that they wanted to keep the price down but still...

id take a used M3 for that kind of money...or an audi s4.

Should be a close race.

As for S2Ks, nice cars, not my cup of tea, for the money I'd much rather have a GTO.

I'll say the guy will beat you off the line with the AWD but you'll eventually pass and defeat him.

As for the S2000, sure they handle well but what's their 1/4 mile time, 2 weeks?

rofl whats the 1/4 mile time of a 2000 mustang gt then? must be a month

an s2000 with a capable driver will hit 13.9

Sorry, but the only way you are going to hit sub-14's in an S2000 is to launch it from a ridiculously high RPM, which will destroy your clutch VERY quickly. Car and Driver went through this a few years back. The car just does not have the power-to-weight ratio, not to mention the torque, aerodynamics, or gearing, to put up sub-14 runs, without seriously damaging the car.

Haha yeah a month.......It will match the S2000 for $10000 less. An S2000 will run a 13 like a 99-04 GT mustang will run a 13, extremely few an far between.

As much as I hate to say it, you'd probably beat himin perfect conditions.... dry warm road, good tires... etc. anything other and the sube should win... unless this guy is awesome with launching and shifting.

I'd say the rexy would win!

from what i've seen, wrx's run aroun 6 seconds flat to 60, while the pt turbo is more like mid 7s...of course, that was a manual wrx (who buys an automatic wrx?). i don't know how much slower an automatic is, i wouldn't be surprised if it was around a full second slower, so i guess it could be a decent race, but i'd still pick the wrx

caranddriver did the 1/4 in the 14 flat. plus those cars they test have really low miles on them and most cars are a good half second faster after 40k-50k miles. so 13.9 is believable. but i agree with kman10587, you'd have to burn a lot of clutch to do it. still, i wouldn't mind having one. plenty fast enough to have a lot of fun, awesome handling, a real hard-edged, purist type car and one of the sweetest gearboxes to can get.

the s2000 will beat both the cars mentioned at the beginning and the stang. why wouldnt you like the new z? 300 hp and looks awesome whats not to like? the rx8's are not as good but i still like them.
