Iv'e been having problems with the idle on the Sienna, usually in the morning it will idle very low, about 200rpm, if you accelarate in neutral and let go it will shut off, after a while you can tell that something kicks in and it goes back to normal. I took it to Toyota and they replaced the ISC. I took the car back and it still has the problem. Since I'm a skeptic when it comes to servicing my cars, I wanted to take a closer look and see for myself what they did, my problem is that I don't know whatt the AIC looks like so I took some pictures and I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
Here are the pics:

Could that black thing be the ISC, if so, it's dirty and has dust all over it, it doesn't look like a new part. Toyota charged me over $500.00 for labor and parts, I was able to get to this part in 5 minutes and they charged me 2 hours of labor.
I would also like to know what the yellow markings signify on the screws. If they are original markings from the day I bought the van, and this is in fact the AIC that they say they "replaced" then this is fraud.
Help me out here, is this the ISC?

Hi,
I checked the part number at www.longotoyota.com and it is what you claim it is. The yellow marking is something mechanics/parts suppliers use to prevent you from tampering with it. If you remove the screw then you will remove the yellow paint and they will know, voiding your warranty. The part is $210 at Longo and I'm assuming it includes the silver thing you show connected directly to the black thing with the part number. I'm not sure it would include the big cylindrical part. The part is an idle speed control valve as you asked, and that little black thing alone can't contain a valve, or so I believe. I'd bring it back, they owe you to fix it right at that price!

Thanks for the reply, and looking at the black thing, does it look like it was replaced? The invoice says, "ISC Replaced". I'm trying to determine if they actually replaced it. If it's just that black little thing then it doesn't look like it was replaced.

I also just learned that ICS stands for Idle Conrol Sensor, for what that's worth.

Hi,
Honestly, it looks like they may have replaced every part that has the yellow marking on it, it may all be one piece, for $200+ I would hope. It may not be new, though, because the time that I found people put the marker on the screws was when I went to an auto dismantler, (junk yard.) The specific color they use lets them know that the part came from them. They don't ever do that with new parts as I know. I'm surprised if it is so dirty because even junk yards tend to clean up their parts nicely!
Sometimes on the receipt there are codes telling you whether the part is new or remanufactured, ie. part ending in XXX are new and those ending in YYY are rebuilt. Look carefully at the fine print and maybe they show this.

I have the same problem on my 2002 sienna. The link that you list does not open showing the location of the sensor. It shows a different site. Is the sensor, ISC or ICS. Can you PLS confirm as there is idle solenoid control ISC, and idle control sensor. Can you provide a picture for location.
Thanks
Thanks

Further to above question, I found it the black piece underneath the throttle body. . I have managed to remove the sensor (black piece you described above)from the idle control valve and sprayed the inside with WD40, also I sprayed the secondary intake of the throttle body with WD40. There is a hole in the secondary intake that draws air from the sensor housing where I sprayed it as well. Waited for 12 hours and the car started idling high for the first 2 minutes and thereafter stabilzed and been fine ever since. I think the unit builds up black soot and contaminants where it restricts the movement of the idle valve. I also noticed that when removing the idle control valve sensor which is the black piece that the electrical connector fits into, there was a loose washer inside by the magnetic piston. I repositioned the washer, reinstalled sensor (black unit) and all is normal.

Just be aware when using WD-40 as a cleaner. It can leave a sticky film attracting more grime in the future.
