Hello
I have a constant problem when weather is damp or raining my van will not start until the engine compartment becaomes very warm or hot and dry. Once the sun warms it no problem. I have had the enghine light in the past come on and off, but it hasn't in a long while and bthe vehicle still does what it does. I have been told it is wires, or a distributor cap, maybe an ignition problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I had a similar problem with my 97 Astro, may I suggest that you do a FULL tuneup with cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires. If that fails to correct your "won't start when it's damp out" problem. Try replacing the coil. I live in Ohio and the problem only occured when it was almost cold enough to freeze outside and DAMP. The new coil finally did the trick but the other things must be done too! -Dave

I would check both the connections to the battery and the connections to the starter after the battery has been disconnected. Does it tick? Or do nothing? There should be 3 wires to check on the starter.

Same problem? Including the error codes? If so, scan the PCM and it may point you in the right direction.

One thing I have learned: don't assume the new electrical parts you install are good.
If your problem remains, go out at night and crank the engine and see if there are any sparks "leaking" out.
Use the water spray bottle technique, and squirt the electrical parts,(distributor, wires, COIL, etc) and see if you get a stray spark start to leak out.
I had this problem, and with "The Old Masters'" help, I did this techique, and found a cracked "new coil".
I replaced the "new coil" with another "newer coil", and my problem appears to be solved.
