Tips for buying a car.
1) if at all possible, don't.
In my opinion, a car is not necessary for a vast amount of people. A family does not normally need more than 1 car. If you stay less than 10 miles from your place of work you don’t really need a car. If you live in a city or near a city, the need for a car is substantially cut. There are many alternatives to the car for transportation. Public and mass transportation are available in most areas. Walking is also a good one. As is cycling, the most efficient method of travel on earth.
There are obviously some people to whom a car is essential, these may be disabled people or people who live in sparsely populated areas. I accept that a car is a necessity for some groups of people but you have to really think if that is the case for you.
Here is a fact that I found to be quite amazing:
The average American uses twice as much energy as the average European or Japanese.
I have been thinking about this and as yet I cannot think of an excuse why this should be so. America is as developed as Europe and Japan, standards of living in these countries are similar, if not higher than in America and the climates are although vastly varying are similar to those found in America.
The main reason for Americas disgusting consumption of the world resources is its total reliance on the automobile.
For god sake when you’re down at the dealer buying you SUV, have some thought for the damage you personally are doing to the world. Its your kids and grandkids that are going to have to pay for your desire to be “safe” in your SUV or your laziness not to walk 10 minutes to the store. So think about that when you get in to your car and work out if its really worth it.

I can tell you why that probably is. The US of A is much more spread out than the Europe and Japan. By spread out I mean that there is a lot of road between large cities and all along that road are many smaller towns that don't have enough people to have public transportation. Then by living in a small town most people won't be able to work in the town so they have to drive into the city to work. I hope that kinda makes sence...going back over and reading it to myself makes sence but to someone that can't see into my head I can see how it wouldn't.

yes, the US is one of the least densely populated 1st world countries.
