Replacing crank sensor on 92 Lesabre

I am thinking about replacing the crank sensor on our 92 Lesabre. Just wondering if this is a DIY project or one for the pros. I'm very mechanical and have the tools, just don't want to get carried away with a job if it's best left to someone else. The engine has been acting up in a similar way as others on this post. After the engine gets hot, the car won't start until it cools down for awhile. So I'm thinking of just planning on changing it as a first step. Boy these cars are really touchy when they get older. Wish I had my 63 Ford with a manual choke. Only problems were after going through a puddle (wet wires) and cold starting. It was a 6 stick and I could even start with a dead battery by pushing a bit and popping the clutch in 3rd.

Yeah, weren't manual chokes great? Had direct control over the choke function. I think you can do the job. Have to take off the right front wheel and work through the opening. Must take off the plastic in the wheel well to access it. Hardest part after that is pulling the harmonic balancer. I had mine off once. It wasn't a big deal. Need a gear puller. I didn't replace the sensor though. I only checked it out. Seems like there was another plastic sheild behind the balancer that had to come off. Was not too difficult.

I was going to replace it on my 94, but did not know how, and later figured out I would have needed an impact wrench, which I could have borrowed, and a special harmonic balancer puller (not the normal style from what I hear), which I could not have borrowed. I ended up taking it to a shop, and they replaced it for a little over $60. To me, that was well worth not having to mess with it.
