Hi,

I have a 1991 Lumina Euro 3.1 that I need to replace the fuel pump. I know I need to drop the tank and have both the Haynes & Chiltons on the car.

I have done this on both my Voyager and the 1974 Dodge PU.

The problem is that I cannot get a hose into the tank. It goes most of the way and then stops short of getting to the gas. Anyone have any ideas to empty the tank before pulling it.

Thanks

Chuck

Lumina's are equipped with an anti-siphon valve to prevent just what you are attempting. If i remember correctly, the gas fiiller neck is connected to the gas tank via rubber gas line that is connected with a hose clamp. You should be able to get the siphon hose through there.

Depending on the condition of the pump if it stopped working, sometimes you can just disconnect the fuel line from the filter and let it roll. If the pump is still working at all, you can turn the key on and drain it real fast.
