86 Eating alt belts

I swapped out my siezed '87 engine for an '86 engine with 17k original miles. Donor car was wrecked in 88 and was just sitting. Engine runs fine but goes through alt belts. I don't think the alt is siezed or has any bearing noises or problems, but there is some rust and pitting on the crank and water pump pulley. Could this cause the problem or maybe it is the alternator?

My guess is that the pulleys are misalligned. This is a ribbed belt and not a v-belt? My wife's 82 z-28 came from the factory with too skinny of a v-belt. After 3 belts in the first 6,000 miles, we went to a wider belt and had no more probelms.
Good Luck!

check and make sure you dont have an oil leak, my 84 used to blow belts about once a month because of an oil lesk that got on the belt and it would eat belts
