Transmission Malfunction

Transmission will shift from 5th to 4th at speed 50 to 60 mph after car has warmed up. Will not come out of 4th without stopping and turning ignition off. The transmission malfunction light will come on after continuing to drive 10 - 20 miles. Dealer says I need a new transmission. Can anyone help?

This may or may not be the answer, but it's easy to do and it's free... Clean your gear selector switch under the shifter lever. I cleaned mine and it made a world of difference!

Was the fluid level the problem or the gear selector switch. For me it was both, but after changing the fluid I added Lucas Transmission Fix and that took care of the tranny popping out of 4th. What fixed your problem?
