My best advice is to follow a Haynes manual. There's also a write-up with advice on www.plymouthlaser.com (good site).

Truly flushing the tranny requires a trip to a shop. It's not necessarilly necessary. It is always good, though. The reason you're doing it for yourself is to save money, I'm assuming, and the cost for a shop to flush the fluid would be little less than the cost of then doing the whole job themselves. Fuck the "right" flush for now, so long as maintainance has been otherwise kept up to date.

The only advice from my personal experience is common sense; the fluid gets everywhere when it spills, the bolts to the pan are easy to strip, and don't overfill the fluid when you're done. It wasn't too difficult a job, I think you'll be fine. Have fun.
