Hello. Have a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 (not full time 4 wheel drive) 130,000 miles..that has a grinding sound coming from passenger side front end while turning sharp (backing up or forward)...does not make sound once underway....What gives?....Thanks, Pete44

A few things come to mind when you mention this.
First, check all lug nuts and ensure they are torqued properly. I had a flat tire repaired on my ZJ and I neglected to double check the torque on the lugs like I normally do. Sure enough, the tech. didn't tighten them all down and the tire was wobbling. It gave me a grinding sound when steering at low speeds and it would disappear at high speeds.
Second, possibly a bad CV joint.
Third, check brake shoes...are they cracked, worn, rubbing, etc.?
Hope that helps.

Also check the front sway bar bushings and end link, it's a long shot murpht3 covered the best chance to find it.
