any one know if this muffler is any good? i'm looking for something deep...and ricy! anything is better then my busted ass Greddy Evo2 though... its been through a lot! been repaired, but not good enough... and suggestions? going to get a full 3" cat-back from the local muffler shop, and not wanting to buy one of their $175.00+ mufflers. they said i can bring them a muffler, and they'll weld it on, no problem. yeah, so?

I would be careful of the cheap stuff on eBay.

for $60 you can get brand name mufflers. I would go with a stock appearing dual tip oval muffler.

Edit> To add something useful to the thread, the oh so popular 3" Dynomax Welded is 60 dollars. Many DSM specific exhausts come with this muffler. The SS version is more money, 120 or so. But it does a fine job of muffling, if thats what your after. If you need something quieter than a straight through muffler, the Edlebrock RPM muffler has shown to be quite quiet and still free flowing enough to make some big HP, also in the 60 dollar range IIRC. There are many options, from cheap ebay mufflers to full blown re-packable race mufflers, but these are some of the ones I have personally had good experiences with.

Hey joe do u think it will affect my hp gain ability if i put a 2'5 full catback with the stock turbo dual tip muffer? OR should i buy a regular rice muffer to ease up the exhuast?
black99gst- Why do u want the carbon fiber muffler soo bad? Its gonna be under your car so who can see it and whats the diff from those mufflers and regular steel/metal muffers?

It wont make a difference, you wont be able to see the carbon fiber unless you crawl under the damn car! Well anyways, I have the apexi muffler with a 3 inch cat back that was made by an exhaust shop. But its probably a little over your price range since you really dont want to spend money on a muffler. Just remember that no e-bay, most of the time you "you get what you pay for"

Get a real HKS carbon fiber muffler because you will know what your gonna expect out of it. If u get a ebay CF muffler you dont know whats gonna happen.

how much you want for that apexi muffler? i'm short on cash, just bought a huge greddy FMIC, piping, and a greddy type-s bov, but if you still have it in a month of so, let me know!

i have looked around and couldnt find any name brand exhaust companys (hks, greddy,apexi,etc...) that just sold mufflers. usually you have to buy a catback with the muffler attached.

Come on now guys, eBay mufflers are $30 and are absolutely all you need. It may be true that with most eBay stuff "you get what you pay for", but it's a damn muffler and they are fine. I can think of 10 local guys, including myself, that have eBay mufflers and have no complaints whatsoever. If you're worried about sound quality, the muffler has very little to do with how your overall exhaust sounds - it's all in the motor. I don't think I've EVER heard a 4g63 that sounded like ass.
Honestly, eBay muffler is all you need :)

The stock muffler of course is going to be more restrictive than a stock looking dynomax, magnaflow, etc. but with the addition of a full turbo back, you will still have the positive difference. I'm not sure about the effects of several high flowing mufflers (95 GSXracer had this) compared to one, performance wise if they were the same loudness. Personally I get sick of a 3'' turboback all the time... trying to go through a quiet neighborhood at night and such.

Yes, when I had the Dynomax Ultraflow Welded as my main muffler, I added a Dynomax Race Bullet muffler to the downpipe as a presilencer. It made a very noticeable difference in sound output, with no measureable degradation of performance, either in logged values or track MPH. Both mufflers were non-restrictive perforated core type mufflers, and in fact the 3" Ultraflow has a 4" core.
