Sony XPlod series just does what it says.....Explodes.

Short on money....maybe look into something other than car audio. Like a new job. :icon16:
Playing aside....what year car? What exactly are you looking for in a system? Bass? SoundQ?

Well, from what I've heard.. If you get an Xplod head unit and all Xplod speakers... It can sound really bad ass. That's really what Sony designed them for, to work with each other. I tend to ignore what others have to say about Sony products and how they're not good. I figure if Sony can create an awesome device such as the PS2, then why not a car audio system? I've never been unsatisfied with any Sony product I've purchased. Heck, I've got a Xplod head unit and all stock speakers and it sounds awesome if I do say so myself. Might I add again, stock speakers. 10 years old and still kickin it like they're new!

Go with all Xplod since you got the HU already, otherwise change to an Alpine or JVC HU then make everything else JL Audio.

But you gotta admit the Xplod stuff just looks cool. If you had a red and black interior, oh baby.

i got the xplod because my car was black with a red interior. and my other car is red with a black interior. The xplods get a bad rep because people dont use them right. If you hook up just the stock size replacement speakers, with no amp, a different brand head unit, and no subs, it will sound flat, albeit a step up from the factory speakers, but no where near the quality of say an infinity system.

However as has been mentioned above the xplods were designed to operate as a system and when correctly installed are quite impressive. I am building an 8 speaker xplod system with a xplod head unit and a 4channel amp which will surly work for what i listen to. and should i choose to i can install a sub off the sub channel ouput at a later date to further round out the system. I had xplods all the way around in my RS, two 4x6 and two 6x9 speakers, off of a POS jenson head unit. and they never blew, never got static, they were poked by little kids, and survived, and for how mixed and pathetic the system was, it sounded perfectly good for what i wanted. Decent lower tones, and clear high tones that i easily hear driving down the highway with the t-tops off and the windows down. Dont get me wrong, it wont win any competitions, but thats not my thing. I just want something that is well rounded, that i can hear over the wind driving down the highway and faithfully reproduces all the sounds of the music im listening to, from country, to classical, to oldies, to rap. And the xplod systems do that perfectly well, and look good doing it. Ive never had a problem with them, and i personally think that all the bad press is from people installing the speakers without knowing how to do it, or pushing them to hard expecting them to hold up like competition speakers and being upset when they blow. kind of like expecting a high school athlete to compete in the olympics and getting mad when they dont medal.

so basically if you want the baddest ass sound system on the block, keep looking, but if you just want a step up from the factory system with speakers that look good to boot. the xplod will work just fine.
