What is the difference between a cold air intake system and a short air ram system? What are the pros and cons to each one? thanks....

Ram air is a shorter tube than cold air. The cold air intake tube runs further away from the engine which lets it suck up colder air. Both will give you a few extra hp, you will probably get a couple extra hp out of a CAI, the only downside to the CAI is since it sits fairly low to the ground if it get completely submersed in water it can lock your engine up. Its hard to submerge your entire filter in water but its happened to people before.

Short ram is easier to install; cheaper; and won't get hydrolock.

Cold air gets much better gains; does not suffer from heat soak; but there is a possibility of hydrolock.

I had a huge list of it on ClubRSX, when I find it i'll post it.

you could buy a by pass valve and if the hole filter goes under the bypass valve will protect you from that

still a bypass valve wont guarantee your car from hydrolock. It has happened to my friend before (in this case he didnt have a bypass valve) but its not hard to get the filter completely submerged in water it just depends his car was lowered so may be that could have been a factor. Just becareful around places with lots of deep puddles then youll be ok. Still get the bypass valve though its definitely worth the money.

I'm not even sure if the bypass valve fits the RSX....I can't remember now but I know there is a reason why there isn't really any RSX owners with the bypass valve.

To me a short ram intake is a stock intake with an open filter. The HP gains from a short ram are usually because of the better filter that is out on. Just avoid driving in deep waters and you should be fine with a true CAI.

I had one on my rs and i drove my car through puddles all the time and never had any problems also my car was almost on the ground so i know that they work really well
