I'm taking my medical liscensing exam (part 1) tomorrow and I was reviewing the definition of 'substance dependence'. i.e. kinda like addiction. The more I read it the more I realized how this fit me for....modeling...ahhhhhhh, I need help!
3 or more of these in 1 year is defined as dependence.
1. Tolerance (it takes more to make you "happy")..started with simple kits out of the box, now I need PE, CF, upgrades, transkits etc...
2. Withdrawal (self explained)
3. Substance taken in larger amounts than intended (how about my last order on hobbyexport.com geesh! ya sure, I'm just going to get a kit and paint)
4. Persisten desire to cut down (well, no not this one)
5. Lots of energy spent trying to obtain substance (more like lots of $)
6. Important social, occupational, or recreation activities reduced because of use (I've spent quite a few nights at home because I just 'had to finish this last part'...And I think some of you use job time as model time, lucky dogs)
7. Continued use in spite of knowing the problems that it causes. (Well besides being broke and smelling funny, I'm not really worried about this one).
So there we have it, I've been diagnosed. 5 out of 7...I suppose I'll send myself a bill. I'm going to start Modelers Annonymous for those that need help as I do. The first step is admiting we have a problem ..

Mike, when I was a teen my parents thought is was a waste also. In my late teens I gave up modeling and started partying. If time could be reversed my parents would encourage my modeling now.
I would encourage you to model if you enjoy it as long as it doesn't interfere with school, which should be the most important thing right now.

no offense, but if your parents would rather have you out galavanting around getting into trouble....as we all know you hooligan kids do...there is something wrong.
my parents encouraged my addiction, they even toted me around the midwest to model contests hundreds of miles from home and sat there contently (albeit bored out of their mind) as I collected door prizes and never getting any real recognition for my work untill I was 16 (then they let me go by myself). I thank them for keeping me out of trouble if not off drugs, but my hobbies did play a BIG part of cleaning my act up.
so in short, I am happy to be a plastic addict!!!!
