cold air kit

I've seen cold air kits ranging in price from 199.00 up to 400.00 dollars.Is there a difference in brands and do you really get what you pay for? Also, how difficult is it to install these cold air kits?

Personally I would go with the comptech icebox. It costs about as much as any other brand of CAI but it has a couple great features that make it better in my opinion. First, since the filter is located further town the intake track and the intake is partially covered by the fender it is almost impossible to hydrolock the engine with this intake. Also, the filter location is a lot easier to take out for cleaning.

The Comptech Icebox has been a bit disappointing. Yes it is pretty much immune to water, but it doesn't yield the gains of a CAI and it is more expensive if i'm not mistaken. If you're really scared about hydrolocking then i'd get the AEM V2, which is like a short ram intake (so yes it is somewhat prone to heat), is very easy to install, impossible to hydrolock, and gives good gains. Its about the same price as the cold air.

A lot of short ram, V2, and icebox owners end up upgrading to a cold air. If you see a puddle while driving just hit the clutch and you shouldn't have any problems, and obviously, when washing the car try not to shoot water right into the filter element.

The biggest differnce is in the filter. I reccomend something of quality but $400.00 for some pipe an air filter is ridiculous. The major brands cost more because they are CARB certified for strict states.
