I own a 01 civic ex, I have heard that if I'm going to change any parts in the engine, i first need to change the computer chip in the car to make the parts work properly. which one do i buy, and how much do they usually run? do you guys have any suggestions??? I want to know because i dont want to buy after market performance parts for my car and not have them work because of a simple computer chip.

Whoever told you that lied to you. If you are planning on doing some major upgrades like turbo, SC, cams, then upgrading the ECU or at least getting something like a VAFC is needed. However since your aparently just starting out you will probably start off with things like intake, header, exhaust. For basic bolt ons I would say an ecu upgrade would be a waste of time and money.

Ok i see your point. and you are right im just going to put on some bolt ons because I dont really see a need for putting on a turbo...im not drag racing and I really dont need to be street racing i have 6 tickets on my record already...haha....(two of which, i might add, were this year and within 24 hours!)
thanks again sivic02...you're a great help..i might bug you more as i get more into this.

What ECU upgrade is the question...There is not one out there for the D17..The car will react fine to upgrades..Disco your negative battery terminal when adding an upgrade to reset the ECU..

to reset the ECU i need to unplug the neg battery terminal, put it back on, turn the car on and off for about three times right?
if im wrong can you please post a procedure or a link to one
thanks
