Hi all again.
I learned the hard way that in my 84 Caprice when the gas guage is at 1/8 a tank... its really empty. Car died while I was on my way to the gas station. Anyway, is there any way to adjust the guage so when the guage says I have 1/8 tank left, I really do have some gas left? Thanks!

It will require alot more work than it's probably worth...
But taking the tank down and adjusting the float using a trial and error process..... How many times are you willing to find yourself stranded and out of gas???

If thats the only way, I think I'll just fill up before a quarter tank. Thanks though, I was just wondering if there was some sort of adjustment outside of the tank.

Check the sending unit wire connection to see if it's corroded.
Removing the tank isn't difficult, but it should be empty and you should have a buddy assist

usually you can replace float or entire sending unit in tank . sending unit can be expensive. floats are cheap. if you take sending unit out try cleaning it with electrical parts cleaner

That's a fairly common problem. There are products such as Gas-Rite that may fix that.
Also, here's (http://www.regionofdoom.com/images/doomtech/tech_notes/gas_gauge_correction.htm) a write up on the Impala SS forum that may help.
(Sorry, no pictures in the write up :disappoin
