Si or EX?

AH, the horrors of searching for a newer car.
I'm buying a car in the next week or so, and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the Ex vs. SI, especially concerning the possibility of using boost in the future. I tried searching for "b16a2 d16y8", but I didn't find any good results, nor could I search "si" since the term is not long enough for a search. (By the way, I'm talking about 1999-2000 SI and Ex)
I've seen some really nice SI's for sale, but the money saved on a EX might be worth it, if down the road the EX would give me nice, reliable power on boost. I'm not planning anything extravagant, just a little boost to have fun with-- staying around the 9 psi mark.
I've heard a few comments about the SI being a bit overrated and I'm finding it hard to justify the 2 grand, or so, more in price difference for the initial purchase. Also, I am always concerned about the abuse an SI may have suffered from the previous owner -- not to mention that I seem to find better buys on the aftermarket and used d16y8 stuff, but I haven't looked too deeply. However, don't get me wrong, I STILL love SI's, I just have some concerns as would anyone who will be dropping a few grand, sans Bill Gates.
Let me know what you think, and by that time I'll probably have gotten an Integra LS

if u definately plan on getting a engine swap i would definately say go with a EX model and save the money for a b16a3 swap. (i think thats the right engine code) best engine for boosting. remember for a good turbo kit it will be at least another 5 grand, after moding and installation is factored in, at least to hold upwards of 9psi. on the other hand if u arent to sure i would go with an si. the EX VTEC's are nice but the d17y8 engine is a SOHC and produces only 127 hp as where the si is close to 160 hp. so 2 grand for around 33 hp?? thats up to you. my best advice is to take a look at how much money u have

NOW and then how much you plan/ are willing to spend in the future and then sit down and look at your options. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN!!

People actually pay those amounts considering the influx of turbos and parts into the market in the last five years? :screwy: Anyhow, I'd go the homemade route, do it myself, except for the tuning, and save a few grand.

i would be willing to bet that just about any EX has been through just as much abuse as an SI. id say the SI's could probably handle the abuse better though... i would go with an SI if i were you, you are already that much farther into the game with a DOHC vtec pushing 160 than a SOHC vtec pushing 127....

i would go against the SI. (even thoughn i wish i had one)
around hear i most of the SI are a lot more expencive that an EX. (I'm talking at least 3g's more)
with that you could be on your way to a sweet engine swap and a lot more power.
lets be realistic: power to the ground
EX- "113 HP"
SI- "137 HP"
this is to the ground( i used quotes because that is what i have heard and have seen many times over)
the swap possibilites are almost never ending for the 6th gen!!!!!!
you could get more power with a swap in an ex than you would lightly boosting the SI.
i would have a problem spending $8,000 or more for a car that would struggle to beat a caviquier or v6 rustatngs.

the turbo setup might only be $2,000 but and mods to that (exaust, cams, pullies etc..) it can get a little expenceivce. no reason to go half way

ok, i see your point in a way, but also... he may end up swapping in the same engine that comes with an SI... which could make it pointless to not buy the SI... i guess what he should do is decided what engine he ultimatley wants, and if its not the engine of the SI then dont get the SI, but if it is, then get the SI... and thats that i guess just my :2cents:

I'd defanetly go with the Si. Tons more aftermarket, a b16 with a great rod/stroke ratio (1.74 i beleive) which causes a very well balanced engine, and if your gonna turbo either one, the Si will end up being better. I'm a bit biased, but I'd take the Si.

Just to put in my 2 cents :screwy: ... I have the 99 EX and I am somewhat unhappy with the lack of power. An Si engine just became accessible to me (no, it's not hot) and i am really considering a swap, u might get this same feeling if you go with the EX.

a b16 with better suspension, exterior, and interior over a y8.................i dont think theres much to think about here.
