We purchased our 2001 durango 1 month ago. It only had 24,000 miles. The check engine light came on and the service department said it was the gas cap. They supposedly fixed it. Last week, we had it in the garage again because the check engine light came back on. Again, they said it was the gas cap. Driving it today, the check engine light came back on.......the horn beeped, the windshield wipers went on and off, the automatic door locks do not work. The horn periodically beeps and the wipers suddenly come on and off. The security light blinks off and on and now the check 4 wheel drive light is on.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Deb53 - SAME PROBLEM!! Called dealership and they never heard of such a problem; yeah right! Can you spell "diagnostic cost"?! Anyway, I disconnected the battery because the above condition happens with the vehicle on or off. Have you had any luck yet? I'm doing some more checking. rmpnjp

Hey, we just had our Durango serviced AGAIN!! Four times they told us the gas cap. This last time they FINALLY narrowed it down to the Central Timer Module at a cost of $318.00 including service. It runs perfectly now. All lights are working, nothing peculiar is going on. Door locks work, windows work, horn works, etc. I'm sure that is the same problem your vehicle is having.

Friend of mine replaced his. Part ran around $135-$145 bucks. He said it was fairly easy to replace. Basically unplug the old one and plug back in the new one. Location of the CTM is somewhere around the drive side kick panel if memory serves for this particular year model.
