A question about 15's..

I just had my system installed, a 15" Audiobahn 1506 (flame series) and the thing hits hard, and I have no complaints..(please no flaming about audiobahn, I've heard it all) My only question was, around volume 12-16 the sound quality isnt as good. At even really low levels, the sub hits hard, and above 16 it makes my ears numb..but at that medium level, it just doesnt sound the same. Do all 15"s do this?

No, but audiobahns dont have any sound quality, they just get loud an hurt your ears. so get used to it

no, audiobahn subs typically have crappy sound quality and that's probably what you're experiencing. At low levels it's reasonable but as you turn up the volume it just gets worse and worse. At high levels it's probably too loud for you to hear the distortion anymore.

....my audiobahns actually dont sound too bad, i think that the higher up you go with audiobahn as far as "Quality" the worse the subs sound. but then agian mine are the AW "natural sound" drivers...damn i wish i could get that vid out...they wang hard enough to distort the camera mic and make voices just a blur....which means it is at least 115-120dB and for the size room ive got with the window open with the small ammount of wattage i have (verified over 40w since i blew a 40w driver for fun...i also have vid of that) they arent bad...and for like $68 each....hell probablt just as loud as RE 10's...

but anyway...audiobahn is notorious for what you are describing...that and your amp may be clipping...

It sounds like you could also be having harmonic problems with the box/subs/vehicle. The first box I had in my Silverado was that way with a pair of JL's. Redid the box and all was OK

That's what I figured. I have heard from just about everyone (of course after I bought the sub) that the sound quality was bad and they just get really loud. I didn't believe it at first, but in the first 5 minutes that I turned up the volume I understood exactly what they were talking about. I don't think I'd pay to get another audiobahn, but for now overall im pretty happy. Thanks everyone.

It was custom built by a local audio dealer/installer called Impact Audio in Trenton, Missouri. They are heard for many miles outside the town, and have a very big reputation. It was built to exact specs of the sub, and JUST fit into the trunk. The sub is located on the left side, while the slot on the right almost goes the whole height of the box, 3" wide, and 13" deep.

"Slotted" as they would call it at Impact..but yes, it is to Bahn's exact specs..and that is very possible-im starting to dislike Audiobahn.

probably too large and too high of tuning with out enough port area...

lower tuning, slughtly smaller, more port area or just seal them may yeild better results, but it isnt going to work mericles.

Then you obviously haven't played with many Audiobahns, because I used to have 2 "natural sound" 12's. They were garabage. Peaky as hell and it was impossible to get good low end out of them even in a big low tuned box. The higher up you go the better they are period. The awxx00 series sounds like ass but can get loud..... up from there the 05 series are just plain badass daily subs period.....get loud as hell reliable (for Audiobahn) and don't sound too bad. The alums ehhh they're ok. Flame Q's (06) and the 08's are AWSOME for the price.......welll that's before you factor in reliablility....ok so they're good for the price....100 bucks for a 12 (06) that can get hella loud and sound decent isn't bad....... cept for the fact that if yo put over 800 to them you'll buy a new pair. the eternals are garnage IMO some of the worst sounding subs I've EVER heard and they aren't that loud. Linear Excursions and Immortals are good...... yes GOOD not great but very solid products..... and the immortals do kick some ass for a budget SPL sub.
