Does anyone's Trooper last?

I got a '01 Trooper w/ ~85k miles. For the past 6 months, I've had low oil pressure. Reading through these forums, it sounds like everyone's Isuzus tend to grenade long before they should. I have the 120k warranty but after a few trips to the only remaining Isuzu dealer in the area for the Tranny, I don't have any faith that they'll cover the engine if anything happens.

I'm just frustrated that I'm close to paying off a vehicle for one of the first times and it seems like its a time bomb right now. Does anyone have any confidence in these things for lasting higher miles? Or should I just suck it up and unload the beast before I regret it?

If you are not using lots of oil right now I won't worry about it.

Keep the PCV and the EGR clean and you will be fine.

Hello,
Yes, the newer model Troopers seem to have problems. However, I also believe if you pay attention to vehicle maintenance, the chances for problems will be reduced.

Another thing to remember is that most people tend to use these forums as sources of information to help them solve the problems they are having with their cars. How many people are not having problems with their Troopers? Do they outnumber the owners with problems?

I have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper purchased with only about 250 miles on the odometer. The only two problems I have had were the two common problems associated with this vehicle: A bad intake gasket and Champion spark plugs.

During my search for information on how to solve the above problems, I settled on the following product lineup to get my vehicle back in shape.

1. Fuel Power by LCD
2. Dual Guard By-pass filtration by Amsoil, Inc.
3. Auto-Rx
4. Synthetic Oil--I prefer to use Amsoil Series 2000
5. Lube Control by LCD

The above products really improved how my Trooper's engine runs. Prior to using the above products the accelerator pedal would vibrate when the tachometer climbed above 2000 rpms. Now, the engine is so smooth and quiet that whenever I step on the gas pedal, I can't tell what rpm the engine is operating at. It could be at 1000, 2,500, or 4,000 rpm for all I know.

The biggest difference has to do with how many miles per gallon my Trooper obtains. Prior to using the above products the mileage ranged from 17 to 19 mpg. Today, I can consistently obtain about 22-24 mpg. One thing I should note is that the Amsoil Series 2000 was used since about 3,000 miles. Every thing else was done in the last year.

If you go to www.bobistheoilguy.com, do a search in the fuel and oil additives section of the forums. You will find so much information about Auto-Rx, Fuel Power, and Lube Control that your head will spin.

I don't know if this information will help you or not. I will say that if you are not willing get rid of your Trooper at this time, look into using some of these products. For me personally, I am very happy with how well my Trooper is running right now.

I have tried to find two of the products you listed above, but can't. Number 1 and 5. Fuel Power and Lube control by LCD... Where do you get these?

sooner,

the only place to get that stuff is online. You have to order it from the website that sells it. Google lube control and fuel power. check out bobistheoilguy.com if you have trouble finding the website, it should be mentioned there. I havent tried those products, but many swear by them. I am in the process of using Auto-RX, and I like it and have seen results.

I just received Auto-Rx, Amsoil Series 2000 Oil and Lube Control by LCD today in the mail. Instead of ordering the By-pass filtration (which will filter down to 1 micron), I ordered a Filtermag magnet that fits on the bottom side of my oil filter and will filter all metal shavings (biggest cause of engine wear) down to 2 microns in size... this was 1/10th the cost of the the By-Pass filtration.
I will let everyone know how my trooper runs after using all of these to clean up the engine. I have a trip to Florida in a month and will have flushed my engine completely by the time I get back.

BTW- my trooper is a 2001 with 68k miles on it. We haven't had any problems, but I have read in other posts that if you use the above products you will ensure engine longevity as well as increase gas mileage. I figure it's worth a shot! :)

Hi Guys
Over here in oz we have The Jackaroo which is the same as your troopers. We get the 3.5lt V6 or the 4JX1 3.0L TDi. What we have found is to keep the servicing up to them especially the 4JX1, as well as oil chocie is critical. generally though we do seem to have too many problems. Mine is a 1998 model with the 4JX1 and have clocked up 160,000KM so far no major dramas. Touch wood.

Sorry about not posting a link for Lube Control and Fuel Power. My mistake.

www.lubecontrol.com

If you go to bobistheoilguy.com, look under the sponsors link for a link to the manufacturer of both products.
