it's never died before, I'm worried

Today driving to work I stopped at a light with the a/c on and the car stumbled and died. It's never done that before, not a peep out of it for almost 160k. It started right back up and seemed fine the remaining three blocks into the garage at work, but naturally I'm worried. what should I look at? No codes in computer, no check engine light nothing seems amiss, am I being paranoid? It's a '93 lx wagon.

Don't worry yet. I have had cars do the same thing to me after filling up with gas, never to have it happen again. With no codes in the computer and no check engine light on, look for the obvious things under the hood and on the guages. Things like loose belts or wires under the hood or guages reading abnormally. I look under the hood of my car probably 4 or 5 times a week just to make sure everything is okay. Its a good habit especially when you have high mileage. Hope this helps.

could it be the a/c compressor is getting ready to die? my escort really bogs down when I run the a/c too. when was the last time you tuned it up

The car is tuned every april 1st, that's the day I bought it, I figured I'd remember to do it that way. The air conditioner...well that's a different story. It's never been touched. Still blows 38 degree air, so I figure if it's not broke don't fix it.

Hi..when you say "no codes in the computer"..there are 2 kinds of codes.A temporary "soft" code..that will erase itself in about 90 starts IF it doesn't happen again.AND a hard code.BOTH these codes can be pulled and looked at.IF you do pull a soft code..erase it..and sortta check it out..DON'T be concerned over it.Don't be taking stuff apart or replacing stuff.Escorts like good plugs and wires.1 stall..I wouldn't worry.Could of been anything.I too have a 93 Lx wagon.STILL cold air.LOL I am right now in 90 degree HIGH humidity sortta shopping around for a deal on 4 snow tires for it for next winter. The wagons also LIKE 4 similar tread pattern tires..with some grooving..for snow/slush..
