Question

Ok i thought this would be an ok place to post this but i was lookin around and i saw an ad for this turbonator thing and it claims to give u 35 horsepower and a 31% Mpg gain. ok so my question is has anyone here bought one and know for sure if it works?? yeah i know im a cheap person:smile:. but i wanna get what ever i can get for now

The "turbonator" is pure snakeoil. There's been shitloads of stuff like this on the market for a long time "intake twisters" and "the tornado" and stuff like that - they're all bull butter. Anything that is too good to be true probably is. I read that the turbinator specifically was actually dynoed on a grand am like mine and showed a LOSS of 4 horsepower.

i was wantin it more for the mpg but if it takes horses it aint worth it

I get a kick out of things that spin the incoming air. Manufacturers go to great lengths to laminate and smooth out the air with vanes and screens. Then some yahoo comes along and claims that spinning air is better and sells a billion fan blades for your intake :)

No kiddin, exactly. They go on the basis that "It's like emptying a popbottle - when you swirl it the liquid leaves faster." what they failed to consider was that you're spinning the bottle with your hands, exerting work on the water to make it leave faster. In the intake though, the air has to do work on the blades to make them spin - actually causing the air to slow down and be harder to suck in = lost power.
