O2 Sensor adapter wire colors?

I replaced my O2 sensor, but the Hyundai wires are a different color than the Walker (brand name) O2 sensor wires. On my 2001 Accent there are 2 whites, 1 gray, and 1 black wire. Does anyone know which wires are the heaters, ground, and signal? I checked the electrical troubleshooting manual...All it has is a schematic without colors labelled. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just today I replaced the O2 sensor on my daughters '95 Elantra with a walker universal 4 wire sensor. The colors are probably the same and are as follows: the heater wires are white, the ground is grey, and the signal is black. The heater wires have no polarity.

I looked in the Walker pamphlet and saw that most of them were wired like that, so I wired it up yesterday. I didn't clear the code because I want to see if it will reset itself. I heard that universal O2 sensors really don't work well since the solder or crimp point acts like a resistor and makes the computer think the O2 sensor is dead. I have yet to see if the light turns off. I'll post back in a few days to let you know if it worked. Thanks for your reply.

I drove for a hundred miles or so, and definitely met the scenario for the ECU to check the O2 sensors. The check engine light did not go off. I ended up pulling the ECU fuse to reset it. Then, I drove about 400 miles roundtrip on a weekend and the light didn't come on. Therefore, looks like the aftermarket O2 sensor works afterall. For those with a 2001 Accent, here is what I used: gray = ground, white = heater wires (polarity doesn't matter), black = signal wire. Thanks to those who sent me private messages.

Got the same check engine code again on the before catalyst O2 sensor. Sent it back since it was still under warranty...Re-ordered the aftermarket sensor with wiring harness attached. Unfortunately I had to negotiate with the guy because he wouldn't take the old O2 sensor back unless I ordered the replacement with wiring harness from him.

Anyhow, installed new one with wiring harness but did not reset the code. Waiting to see if it will reset itself in the meantime...Time will tell if aftermarket O2 sensors are crap or not. I definitely recommend to everyone to get the HYUNDAI brand O2 sensors and install them yourself. For a 2001 Accent the Hyundai O2 sensors w/harness are only $90 at the dealer. You'll pay $90 anyhow for an aftermarket sensor with wires.
