house of kolor paints

keeps your eyes open at your local wal mart they have stocked the shelves with house of kolor primer, color coat, and top coat at the walmart here in indiana. so maybe the others will be getting it in to.

You mean Black Gold? I have been using that for a while. Great stuff. I just did a Majik Blue Pearl over a black base coat. Awesome!

How about some pics of what you bought? I doubt seriously that HOK paints are for sale at Wal-Mart.

It sounds to me like the 3 step flip flop paints that walmart sells. I have seen several diffrent brands that sell similar products in walmart, but not HOK. You never know though, you can't underestimate wal-mart.

hmm. i am a 3 1/2 year veteran of wal mart. and i have seen some pretty strange things. i would love to see a picture of what you got. i'm with marc on this one. i dont see HOK being marketed at wal mart. it is just too expensive a paint. if you are talking about the mirage paint, that comes with the 3 step system. my store has had it for quite some time now. though pricey at around 20 bucks for the set. i'd rather pick up some HOK pre thinned paints from some of the various online sources

Yes im sure they have the Dupli-color Mirage Paint, in fact i know, ive been there. HOK? No.... look in the Automotive section at Wal-mart if you want the Dupli-Mirage. HOK is not and will not be sold at Wal-mart. No disrespect to HOK but Wally mart could never be that in tune with whats going on :lol: :grinno: :lol:

I want proof! Pic of stocked shelves, pic of stuff you got, pic or reciept hilighted where HOK paint it, and signed by the store manager, your teller, and you.....And your drivers liscense and S.S. number for refference :naughty: Just kiddin man. That sounds cool tho, if it is true. But I don't think walmart could handle that kind of quality.

no!!!!!!! My walmart doesn't have House of Kolors paints! They are sold out on Dupli Color too! Its amazing! The automotive section was soo empty! :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

what was the ratio of this HOK paint to duplicolor? wal mart operates on an automatic replenish system. unless manually ordered, stores do not receive any shipments of certain products until they sell down to a certain level. I have noticed in most of the stores in my area that there was ABSOLUTELY no duplicolor clear coat. i would immagine that parts of the duplicolor line will no longer be carried to make room for this paint. but as you notice the can says from the makers of HOK. so i would imagine that it is a modified formula of HOK and sold by valspar, or a subsidary. just my .02. i have experienced the workings of walmart internally for the last 3 1/2 years

House of Kolor is an automotive paint that requires a certain reducer, primer, clearcoat, and certain prep work for it to come out well.

So what white97ex brought up is a very valid point. The can does say "From the makers" of House of Color. These paints are probably much more mild so they can be more universal and not require extensive knowledge of automotive paint.

In my store they were way on the top of the shelf. They weren't really out yet either. This always happens in my WM. Anytime they have good stuff, it isn't out on the normal shevles. We have shitloads of duplicolor and the colorshift duplicolor tho.

sometimes if it is up on the top shelf, it could be NOF which is not on file. and they are waiting for it to download through home office, or their UPC department to add it into the system. also, if your store has it, it could be a "test" store for this product to see how well it will sell before it is sold throughout wal mart.

hey, if you guys will get me a UPC i will see who is distributing this product. I'd also like to run a product finder so i can see if there are any stores in my area that are carrying this product yet. if you dont know how to read a upc it is all of the numbers on the bar code of the package. thanks

ok here is what i have come up with thus far. the paint is being marketed by plasti kote, which is a division of valspar. the makers of House of Kolor. there are a total of 14 different paints.

clear coat
base silver
base white
tangelo
true blue
lime time
sno white
sh black
(all of the preceding being pearl colors)
(all of the following are kandy colors)
lime gold
kobalt blue
tangerine
organic green
sh purple
sh apple read.

now. if you are interested in getting these paints here is the information you need.

if your local wal mart doesn't stock this paint, have them run an item locator and see if there is a store within a reasonable distance that has it. our locator can search up to 150 miles. if they say they can't ask for someone who can, trust me, they can do it. i did it today.

these are the numbers you will need

the distributor number which is 406520
the department number (any wal mart associate should know it or be able to get it) which is department 10

and then a description. they can simple search the color to find it. for instance, clear, or tan for tangelo or tangerine.

UPC #'s this might help. i had to add one of these colors to our system just to do a search. it was NOF at my store (not on file) i don't know whether this means my store will start receiving it since i added it or not. but when i searched. every store within the 150 mile radius was listed as NOF. so. not sure if anyone will have any luck with thise. but here are the UPC's. these follow in order that they are listed above. i will list the first 3 complete numbers and you will see the pattern. the only numbers that ever change with this line of product are the last two

all of this has been pulled strait from the wal mart SMART system. if your local store can not or will not help. call 1800walmart. they should be able to get you some help.

I also hit up the Plasti Kote web site, and it has apparently not been updated as they dont have any information for the product either. but feel free to check it out and see if maybe i missed it. good luck guys. anyone who manages to get this stuff to your store. let us know how you did it. I will be exhausting my resources to try and get it available locally for me. good luck

This explains it. Seems that some Wal-Marts carry Duplicolor and some carry Plastikote. Wal-Marts here in the Tulsa OK area carry Duplicolor. Perhaps Pep Boys has it.

you know. now that you say that. my store carries duplicolor, and not a lick of plasti kote. and i've seen plasti kote at some stores......hmmmm

I went to my local wally last night and found the HOK paint there, dunno if i'll buy any since i've got a few jars of kandy tangerine from black gold as well as a few different base coats. Plus i've got a half gallon of galaxy gray base from my car..lol

what portion of the country are you guys located in that are finding the product. it seems that most WM's here in the south only have duplicolor

but its still not the real deal. I am sure these are similar to some of the Duplicolor paints. Valspar is good stuff has anyone used these? I am curious how they turn out.

yeah. it is marketed by valspar (the maker of HOK) under their plasti kote brand. it uses the same names as HOK paint. such as the Kandy line. im sure it is simply a change in formula to make it more user friendly and easier to spray out of an aerosol.
