Colder Plugs--NGK TR6

Has anybody tried the NGK TR6 plugs (non-fancy metal) in a stock 5.3 (2001) or other truck V-8?

They are one step colder than stock, and I'm thinking about trying them to solve a hot-weather ping. I know some of the modified LS1 guys use them, but I wonder if they'll work OK in our engines. I run a 180 thermostat, and have tried several other things to stop the pinging--don't get me started.

Thanks.

Not a good idea unless you have some type of forced induction. Try the NGK TR55's

01Blackerado,

Have you used TR55's and found them to "act" colder than stock plugs? They are stock heat range but don't have the precious metal tips.

Has anybody out there actually used TR6 plugs in these motors?

I have a set I'm about to install for use with my nitrous. I've been running the TR55s and have had zero problem out of them.
