suggestion for main-seal tide-over fix?

Long story short--had oil filter changed, upon returning home noticed that I was losing a small amount of oil when I hadn't been before. Took it back to the mechanic to make sure the oil pan bolt was tight yesterday, which is where it was discovered that the main seal was leaking. (Yeah, way to mention that to me while you were under there changing that fuxxing oil, asstard.) It was just a coincidence that it had started to visibly leak like that around that time.

Yeah, I know my chances of finding any advice other than "Have everything pulled out and replace the main seal" are small, but I simply don't have any more money to put into my truck. Anyone know anything I can do to stop the leak till I can scrape up the 2-300 bucks it's gonna cost me to have that sucker fixed? >_<

May want to try a high mileage oil as they put in extra seal swell additives to help out problems like this. Is a long shot but if it just started leaking may be helpful.

Well it's been leaking for a long while; the burn stains on the exhaust and the slingback of muck on the transmission fluid pan are indicitive of that. But it's only just started to leak badly enough that it drips to the ground, so I dunno.

I have the same problem. Had to have piggyback plug installed then he tells me that as well. He wents 500 to fix mine thats when i slapped the for sale sign on it i put over 1000 in this truck this year. I told him its probally because we changed to a 5w30 and i was running 10w40. I plan on going back to see if it stops it.

Yeah, the former owner of the the truck said he never had any troubles with it (which leads me to believe that his standards are pretty low with the way the thing idles, but I digress), but as I said it wasn't leaking till just a couple days ago; and I DID have the oil changed recently, and I believe they put 5w30 in there, so maybe i should change back to 10w40.. which I'm pretty sure was in there before.

thats what happened to me i had that in there since the i bought it and then when the oversize plug was needed he switched me over to that then with piggy back he has a hd -30 but im still gonna go back to 10w40

is it the front or rear main seal?
the front seal is not hard to chang at all its just
time consuming. get a chilton for your blazer it will help you understand how to do it. prob cost you less then $50 in parts.

1.) Check the oil level on the stick. The guy could have overfilled the crankcase causing high oil pressure which will force oil out of the seals.

2.) Replace your PCV valve. High crankcase vapor pressure can force leaks as well.

It's the rear main seal, and it's a bitch to replace.

And the PCV valve was replaced about a month ago; this leak has been present for a while, as indicated by the volume of slingback muck built up and burnt onto the exhaust and transmission fluid pan... it's just now gotten bad enough for it to noticeably drip.
