Check with your dealer and see if your emmision components are covered under warranty. Someone said 80,000 miles? Could be purge valve not openning all the way. Ive got the same code and its driving me nuts too. Valve seems to work while bench tested

Hey Berry. Do you really believe that the gas cap can set this code? If so do I have to purchase an OEM cap?

BTW, as a fellow Malibu owner, my condolences.

yeah, thanks - I guess (on the Malibu). But usually it reads gas cap if it comes up after a while out of the blue.

Usually a faulty gas cap will trigger a "large leak detected" code. The P0441 may, or may not be triggered by a miniscule leak. I don't have the car now [getting a used transmission]. When i had the car the solenoid bench tested ok. When I get it back i will check the emmision lines running to the canister, located under the car in front of the gas tank for their condition. We have OBD II testing in this state as part of our inspections..and the system has to work, or your screwed. Isn't that nice.
