Hey it ain't much but it will definitely be an improvement over mine. Got it yesterday for $60. In good shape, brake lines are broke and brake shoes, springs are missing. No problem though. The damn thing is posi w/3.42 gears oh yeah baby!! Beats the hell out of my 2.73 w/ open diff. Can't wait to put this biotch on!! Headers in 7 days. Damn, i think i'm on a roll. Somebody give me a cookie.

97CamaroRs - when you switch your gears, i think you said you wnet from 3.23 to 3.42, did you notice a big difference in performance?

Internet explorer should have given you a cookie when started the thread?

Anyways, you can use the hardware off your exsisting rear (unless there's something I don't know about with what you're doing). I would be overly critical of the condition and straightness of the drum backing plates tho, they tweak in the weirdest and almost unnoticable ways and cause a myriad of headaches.

Koeb$ - I went to thirdgen.org message borads, found a kid who lives in my area and bought it off of him. He just put an entire 4th gen rearend with dics in in his so, he didn't need it anymore. Got it for $55 becuase outside stuff was broken, brake lines, drums, good thing my existing stuff is still good, but i think i'm gonna replace everything anyways.

Dumb question - everything on my car now has to go, shocks, springs, stab. links, bushings. I neeed to replace everything before i but this rearend on. What else do i need? I know i'm missing something, pan bar, torque bar , and thing else? Stuff is real rusted under there, except the underbody, thank GOD.

Those cookies are good, Mrs. Fields anyone? Gonna do it myself along with my pops, but i gotta get a suspension overhual 1st, everything down there has to go. The kid i got it from has money, so i figured he really didn't care for the money. He had two porsche 944's in the garage which were getting painted and redone. Gotta replace a couple of things on the outside of the rearend, that broke off when it was taken off, no biggy though.

Wow, a pair of Porches? I'm surprised he didn't just let you have the rearend for free. Sheesh.

the 944's go for about 3-8k so they arn't all that expensive. The turbo ones can hold their own against some LS1's tho.

Did you take the rear-end cover off to make sure everything is kosher before you bought it? Sounds like you got a steal.

You pretty much covered all the bases there. I recommend http://www.spohn.net/ for you suspension parts.

You need to remove the rear cover and check to be sure it is a posi and 3.42 ratio. The posi will have clutches in the carrier and you can check the ratio with the numbers on the ring gear and pinion. Divide the number on the ring gear with the number of teeth on the pinion, that will give you the ratio. Very few 3rd gens had a posi 3.42 with drum brakes. If it is, it is the weaker 7.5 inch not the aussie Borg Warner that came in the IROC 350' s. Don't waste your time until you sure what you have. Trust me, I have owned five third gens and four fourth gens.
