ignorance

I was driving in my car today and thinking about being happy. People always say that money doesn't buy happiness. I consider myself a happy person(kinda twisted, but happy), but I also acknoledge that I have many problems. I'm worried about many things I have no control over. I have a implosive temper (oxymoron?). as in I don't get mad very easily but if I do, watch out.
The thing is, is ignorance the path to happiness. I pride myself on being semi-intellectual yet it doesn't make me happy. My truly happy moments are parts that appeal to my insticts. Sex, competition, hunting games(such as air soft games), they are all basic instincts of many animals.

Is this saying that true happiness is not based in the material world but in the ignorance of basic insticts.
look at a dog. They're not very bright but they seem happy almost all the time.

anyways had to get that off my chest

Hmm...I'm smart and lots of things make me happy, but nothing makes me happier than going to sleep at the beach. In the sun. Absolutely nothing...ever.

That's one of those universal feelings that everyone likes. Cats love it. Dogs love it.

Maybe it is those primal things that make us feel good.

thats the way that I'm seeing it

I think that's the way it goes. At least, if you want happiness on a higher level, you have to achieve it first on a primal level. Work your way up.

what higher level would there be

should i start meditating?

Haha, no. I meant like, before you can be happy on a personal level, you must be biologically happy.

In psychology, we learned about this hierarchy of needs, and it says before you can satisfy belonging needs (like, friends and stuff) or self-actualized needs (like, your inner self, maybe we should both start meditating...) you have to first be fed and have fresh air and things like that.

There was this study done on a bunch of men. They were starved, and after 4 days, they weren't thinking about sex or money at all. All they were thinking about was food. It kind of works like that. You have to be happy in one place before you can move on.

This in some ways reminds me of fight club. Every thing that people claim that they need: i.e. designer clothes, lima bean loveseats.
quote from movie
"I say let's never be complete. Lets stop trying to be perfect. Let's evolve."
It kinda pertains.

We are the all singing all dancing crap of the world

Good connection. I didn't even think about it. I liked the movie, but the book is better.

And, yes, you are.

It really kinda makes sense. We claim that there is all this stuff we need but in the hunter gatherer sense of the word survival. we don't really need it. SO, why do we all work jobs that hate to make money so we can buy things we don't need. Some professions really do help out. Doctors.... there are some more but i can't think of them. but, most professions are useless in the advancement of the human race. Why do I need to spend $80 on a pair of jeans just so i can have some guys name on my ass. This isn't going to make me happy.
BTW i have to agree laying out in the sun is incredibly relaxing and makes me happy.
But really should all humans be striving for simplicity while culture tries to pull us the other way. Should we all just keep float ing on "already we'll all float on allright"(srry couldn't resist) down the "river" of trends and useless material world goods and fight over our stuff. or should we start to look inward and try to better our selves.
I'm not really sure where I stand on this because I'm a little tipsy and it's 4:30 in the morning here and I can't sleep.

I like Fight Club too....i think ive seen it 100 times...i even started a fight club in highschool....of course no one cared too much about the philosophy behind it...they all just wanted to beat their best friends ass....girls fought too...it was pretty funny..... but ur right...we dont need a fancy shirt to be truly happy...but in this day and age, most ignorant people think we do need expensive things to be happy...i guess its a social acceptance thing...and in order for us to be socially accepted we need to look and act like the general public....but of course if u dont give a rats ass what those ignorant people think...then their will be no need to try and be part of them...this is how the world has become....i heard the best way to change the system is to be part of the system...be a sheep in wolves clothing....ne way....i dont think tyler durden says lima bean loveseats...i think he says...sprinne green stripe patterns..lol...

be a sheep in wolves clothing

A sheep in wolves clothing eh? I think it might work a little better for the wolf in sheeps clothing.

We are all nothing but animals, just feed the urge and it will make you feel better. For example I work out every day, I have a very physicly demanding job, have a girl who loves to please me (for some odd reason...) I am man, hear me roar! I actually enjoy studying now. If I am a little bored I will pick up the book for whatever class I am taking at the time and will either review or read ahead because learning things brings me joy. It didnt bring me joy when I wasnt getting as much physical activity or sex. So go put on your animal skin toga thing, grab your wooden club, go wack an animal, eat it, find a girl, knock her out with the club, and mate. Its only natural.

I think ignorance does play a good part in keeping us happy. If we knew every single little dirty detail about everything and how things work, we would all become cynical and criticizing, because as we all know the world is full of corruption and nothing is perfectly good. We should all just live our lives doing what we like to do, and ignore small details and things that bother us. Just smile and move on

Have u heard this question asked before....If knowledge is freedom, why is ignorance bliss?

spaminator
06-11-2005, 04:46 PM
because knowledge frees you from the ignorance that you were once in but if you know every detail about everything than you would be criticizing everything and you would really feel the corruption that plagues this planet.

But dogs are happy

I am one to believe that money can buy happiness. Or atleast it can buy you a very expensive RV, so you can drive up next to it ant wave at it. But also it has its share of problems. Mo Money Mo Problems. Its all in how you deal with life. Since I am broke I want money. If I was rich and had a boat load of legal problems, I would wish I was poor. Its probably more in the state of mind one is in. A religous person is controlled by what he believes and thinks, by the church. That person is force fed what he should believe. But a spiritual man has a wide open forum. I heard something really good the other day. Religious people are people who have never been to hell and fear it. But a spiritual person is a person who has been to hell and back and is very grateful for the path he has taken, because he/she realizes something beyond religion. A place where one would never have gotten to, without doing what they did.

but then again, a religious person is strong because they never gave in to curiosities and desires... but then again, they missed out on experiences because of this choice... but then again.... blah blah blah..
