I don't get your question. Are you sure it wasn't a mix up? Is your amp ground by a wire and not the "amp" grounding itself?

Oh. and welcome

All I can suggest for now is to double check all your connections.

Does the amp work?

how do you know the ground terminal side is hot?
when you have power running to the amp and then take your test light with one end on the neg. amp and one to a ground, you complete the power circuit and yes, you will have "power" there. all test lights do is test to see if the circuit is complete.

There's a little more to it than that. Are you testing with the amp on or off and have you actually hooked up a speaker or sub to the amp to see if it works. If your using your test light while you have your car on and a remote signal coming from your head unit then your going to show hot on the negative side. If you haven't tested to see if the amp is actually working then I would try that before anything else. If you test and the amp doesn't work and you still get a hot signal from the negative side when the car is off or you remove the remote signal then you have a problem and it may be an easy fix and it could be something you can't fix at all. How does your test light work?
