L-48 rebuild

Hi Everybody. I'm in the process of a ground-up restoration of my '75
with the chassis about complete and ready to rebuild the original L-48
(101,000 miles). I've rebuilt several engines before but always stock. Knowing the '75 L-48 has a bad reputation for being on the wimpy side,
I'd like to improve it's performance while keeping stock appearance. Can anyone give me some guidance on compression increase either by changing pistons or millling heads, camshaft replacement, timing, carburetor (quadrajet) Etc.? The car has a 4-speed and 3.36 gear.
I'm not looking to build a race car, just something I can leave the 16 year old in the souped up rice burner sitting in Corvette tire smoke at a traffic light. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

if you want it to appear stock on the outside, replace the heads to L-82 specs and no one but you will know. That bad boy will breathe waaaayyy better with 2.02 intakes and a few mods on the stock Q-jet!
