Oil Pressure/Aftermarket Gauge

Two questions, first of all, What are some of y'alls oil pressure readings out there?? Mine seems to go down to about 20 lbs. at a hot idle. Not sure if the gauge is correct either. Second question, where is the place to tap into the system for the aftermarket gauge?? Can not find the factory sensor. It is not right above the filter like I thought. There is a plug on the block right above the filter adapter. Is this where i need to put the gauge?? Thanks

My gauge sender on my 88 350 is on the rear drivers side of the engine block. It is a little fat can that attaches right above the oil filter. I put a new one in and my gauge reads between 45-60 depending on my rpm. Really doesn't drop down below that at all. there is a second sender on the top of the engine back by the distrubutor. I replaced that one as well. I understand that it provides a signal to the engine that will shuit down the engine if some minimum oil pressure is not maintained. I have not installed an aftermarket gauge for oil pressure, however I have installed cyberdyne digital gauges for tranny oil temp, water temp, and tach in an autometer three gauge pillar. It was a little tricky to install, but once done I am really happy with the results. I like the green digital gauges better than the red.

My '98 also reads 20# at hot idle and about 40# 60 mph. Been that way since new.

Thanks for the feedback. Just got back into a gasser after being in nothing but diesels for the past 8 years. Finally found where to plug in mechanical oil pressure gauge. Found that it is reading exactly what the in dash gauge reads. go figure, a factory gauge that actually is accurate!!!!!
