2000 Silv/5.3L spark plug change advice needed

I ordered a set of plugs and stock plug wires on-line. I have a 2000 Silverado extended cab, 5.3. The original plugs were platinum, and the ones I ordered are the iridiums p/n 41-985. I understand GM uses the iridiums exclusively now. Can I use a regular 5/8" spark plug socket to remove them? I saw a TSB or something that mentioned using an extended socket or the insulator may crack. I'm not sure if a "standard" socket will work or not.

Any advice before I dig into it? The plugs didn't come with anti-sieze compound, which I will put on. I will also put some dielectric grease on the metal fittings and boots before putting the plug wires on. It looks like the rear plugs are going to be a bitch.

Anyone know if the PCM needs to be changed because the original plugs had a .060 gap, and the iridiums have a .040? I have 92k miles on my vehicle and don't think they have ever been changed, do you think the performance will improve?

When i changed the plugs in my Silverado all i used was the regular sparkplug socket and had no problems. Nothing has to be done with the PCM and unless it is running crappy cause of fouling plugs you won't notice any difference either. As for having a hard time with the rear plugs, the rear one on the passenger side was the only one that gave me grief.

Where do you order your plugs/wires from? Also, do the plugs come pre-gapped, or do you have to tweak them yourself? One more thing: Is there a specified torque you should tighten the plugs to, or do you worry that much about it?

The plugs came pre gapped at .040, torque is 11 ft lbs. I got them online at some ac-delco website, just google AC-delco parts and find the best price. The plug change was straight forward. I think it runs differently now, but think it may be psychological. I used some electrical grase and anti sieze too. The old plugs and wires looked great, but wanted to change them out as I don't know what kind of history the truck has when I got it at 92k miles about a month ago.
